High Current Solid State Relays
$50.00 - $70.00
High Current Solid State Relays are used in some sauna control systems for the purpose of turning the heaters on and off while moderating the sauna's internal temperature. Occasionally such relays are also used for control of the internal lighting, but more often a Low Current Solid State Relay used instead.
While the choice of relay might be seemingly trivial, the amount of power being channeled through an SSR to power your sauna's heaters is high enough to be hazardous should a poor quality or sub-spec'd replacement be used.
For this reason, Lirrd is our chosen supplier of solid state relays. They've gone through the costly and time consuming process of obtaining all the proper certifications for its products through Underwriter's Laboratory, ensuring that they meet all of the minimum safety requirements when used within the manufacturers recommended specifications in the manner for which is was intended.

Selecting the Correct Solid State Relay
When replacing a solid state relay, please make sure that the current rating of your new relay is at least as high as the one you're replacing. Failure to do so will likely result in damage the replacement part if it does not meet or exceed the required specifications.
Recommended Use of Thermal Compound
It's important that any solid state relay first be primed with a thin layer of thermal compound coating the bottom, and mounted tightly to a metal surface in order to dissipate the excess heat it gives off when the heaters are on.
Mounting and Proper Heat Dissipation
Most saunas that use solid state relays typically have them mounted to the metal enclosure that houses the rest of the control system. Alternatively, in many older saunas, the components (including the relays) were simply mounted to a sheet of aluminum on top of the sauna. While both provide a moderate amount of heat dissipation, you may wish to consider adding a dedicated heatsink if the space is available to do so.
Because of the recent rash of counterfeit solid state relays that have appeared on the market in recent years, extra effort was made to qualify our chosen supplier. We only purchase SSR relays directly from the manufacturer to ensure that we sell products we know are genuine.
